Golfing

I have to admit, I have been quite a degenerate mother this week.  I have been so tired and sick.  So when the kids aren't in front of the television(I know, I told you!) they have been engaging in self led imaginative play.  When I went outside to check on them a little bit ago, they were busy playing golf.  Tommy still in his PJs and Katie in her shirt and undies.  They had transformed their old trikes into golf carts.  

Katie fastened an egg carton from the recycling bin on hers to hold the balls and Tommy was in charge of transporting the club.  

 They even found a perfect hole.  A piece to the Diego rescue center.  

So right now I am sitting here listening to the make their way up and down the street putting in every yard they pass.  Cheering each other on and making up rules.  These are the moments when I marvel at how amazing and creative they are and when I can learn to forgive myself for not being all that I wanted to be for them all of the time.  They really have their best ideas when I am not leading the activities anyway.  It is clear that they know I love and care for them and that they too love and care for me.  They understand when I'm not well and go easy on me.  They even make me get well cards when I'm really bad off.  I don't know how I got so lucky to have such an amazing family.  I love them all so very much.

A baby gift

Since my sewing machine has been out of service, I have rediscovered the joy of knitting.  Slow and steady knitting always seemed to play second fiddle the instant gratification that I get from sewing.  All of the fun fabric and ribbons!  The ideas that can come together in no time!  Yes, sewing is sexy.  But oh knitting, how I have forgotten how much I love the.  The quiet rhythm, the satisfaction that comes with watching your creation come together one stitch at a time.  It is relaxing and meditative and you can knit anywhere.  So easy to pick up and put down.  The softness of yarn in your hands!  Yes, I do love to knit and there is nothing better to knit than baby gifts.  So sweet and little and as close to instant gratification as you'll get with knitting!  I love to think about the little person that will be wearing them as I stitch and seam.

This hat is for one of Matt's friends babies.  It turned out a little bigger than I had imagined, but babies do grow quickly, don't they!  It kinda looks silly on bear's odd shaped head too.  When Katie saw me with the hat on bear she got all excited, "Is that hat for BEAR?"  She naturally thinks that everything that I make is for her or her stuffed friends.  She has requested a sweater made out of this yarn since she felt it's wonderful softness and it just so pink!  Now I am searching Ravelry for a new pattern.  I am starting to spend more time browsing there that I am actually knitting!

Hatteras

We just got back from a week at the sea.  It was so nice to slow our pace down a bit and really enjoy the moment and being with each other.  It seems that at home we always have something going on or things that we should be doing.  On vacation there is nothing.  No agenda, no plans, no clock.  Just us lazily floating through our days, collecting seashells, building sandcastles, chasing crabs, swimming in the waves, flying kites, feeding the birds, playing games, resting.  It was also so nice to have Matt to ourselves for such a long stretch.  If only we could do it more often.
